Michaux Garden records, 1943-1949.

Records consist of correspondence, plats, and other items. Correspondence (1946-1949) chiefly consists of letters between Mrs. Ellison A. Williams, chairman of the Michaux Garden Committee of the Garden Club, and various government officials including Senator Burnet R. Maybank and Representative L. Mendel Rivers. Letters concern the Garden Club's efforts to acquire and preserve the site of a garden (or nursery) near Charleston (S.C.) established by the French botanist Andre Michaux (1746-1802). Plats (1943) are of the Charleston Army Air Base and a tract of land there which was the site of the Michaux Garden. Other items include newspaper clippings; and notes tracing title to the property on which the Michaux Garden was located.
